The label you’re looking for is on the hinge side of the frame, a small embossed plate with a six-digit SKU beginning in “VS” for Vented Sidelites or “SL” for Select. If the label is painted over, which we see constantly on Hialeah Gardens homes built between 2005 and 2015, measure the daylight opening and the frame depth. Therma-Tru Select Series frames are 3-1/4″ deep, not the 3-1/2″ you’ll find on most PGT or CGI units. Signs Your Therma-Tru Window Installation Is Failing

• Visible gap at the sill or header. The frame has pulled away from the rough opening, usually because the original installer used expanding foam instead of backer rod and sealant. In Hialeah Gardens, that foam breaks down after seven to ten years of heat cycling, and the frame settles.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things a homeowner can safely check without tools: whether the weep holes at the sill are clogged with debris, and whether the sash locks are fully engaging. Clear the weeps with a piece of wire, cycle the lock, and test again after the next rain.

Everything else carries real risk. Therma-Tru Vented Sidelites are heavy, often 40-60 pounds for a standard sidelite, and the integrated operator mechanism is under spring tension. A sash dropped from height will shatter the IGU and can damage the frame beyond repair. More critically, improper flashing on a replacement unit will funnel water into the wall cavity for months before it shows inside.
